The Tardis wheezed and groaned its way into being, the sound echoing off the dark cavernous halls as it rematerialized. Inside, the Doctor was finishing flicking of switches and turning on the screen. "Well, where are we this time?" he asks of no one in particular. It was too dark right outside the window to tell so, with a shrug, he rummages around for a torch before going to the door to open it. Might as well work out where and when he is the old fashioned way.

Clicking on the flashlight as he exits the Tardis. "Hello...anyone here?" he says carefully.

The Tardis was acting up again. The Doctor hurried around to flip a handful of switches from up to down and back again as the console room shook. He took his hands away quickly at a spark. "Behave yourself, we're almost there...I hope." It did look like he was going to have to rematerialize early. As he flipped the lever, something streaked across the viewscreen....something green. The Doctor didn't have a chance to look at it closely enough because the Tardis and it were just about to collide. He slides quickly to the right, pulling the Tardis off course just in time to dodge the object.

Or so he hoped. "Whew, that was close."

The Doctor probably should have paused to think as he jumped into the controller's chair, the psychic link helmet lowering...but there wasn't time for such details.

It was an average day. The sun was shining. People were milling around, driving here, walking there...chatting on cellphones...

Somewhere in a small kids park in the city, a blue phone box slowly rematerialized with a grinding sound that died away as it came into being. The door opened and out stepped the Doctor. He breathed in, always liking it when he changed timelines. Something new about the past, something about being there rather than just hearing about it.

He looked off at a nearby clock tower, noting he'd made it spot on. "Atta girl," he patted the Tardis with a smile. He'd brought them 15 minutes before Sam had said his accident had happened. He hadn't been able to set them down exactly where he'd said, but the Doctor had made it within a few blocks at least...he was pretty sure...

Besides, it wouldn't have looked good to set down like that in such a heavily populated area. He knocked on the tardis door. "It's alright, you can come out now." He wondered why Sam was taking so long. They were here, weren't they?

The ever growing list of possibilities...

- Jeannie, Rodney Mckay's sister
- Dr. Daniel Jackson, Stargate movie version
- Jack Sparrow
- Ryan Wolfe
- The Empath from Star Trek ep of the same name
- Invisible Man (just because that would be an interesting muse to write for)
- Classic Rogue from Xmen

EDIT: Max Headroom

The Doctor pushed through the doors of the police precinct and walked off in the direction where he'd parked the TARDIS, hands jammed in his pockets. He was still kicking himself for getting involved as he heard his strange new companion trotting along behind him. Couldn't just stay incognito, could you, he told himself. Now he was stuck with returning this Sam Tyler character ([livejournal.com profile] ovr_teh_rainbow) back to the very dull year of 2009.

He did dislike using the Tardis as a taxi service. Maybe he was getting soft in his old age...

The Tardis was where he'd left it in an alley, standing ready and waiting for him. The Doctor smiled, she always looked like home to him no matter where he was.
He fumbled with the keys, looking around to make sure they weren't being watched as he worked on unlocking the door.

The door closed with a whirr and the Doctor set about working at the controls. He had a passenger with him this time, a charming young lady by the name of Maggie. She was standing off to the side quietly, not able to see the console or the inside of the tardis itself. The Doctor wondered if she would really be able to enjoy the trip despite the fact they were going through time and space, she really wouldn't be able to see it...because she was blind.

The Doctor flicked a switch here and there, setting the main time rotor moving up and down as the TARDIS dematerialized from where it stood and began it's trek through the vortex. It was a bumpy ride but the Doctor was used to it.

"Right," he said, programming the controls in front of him. "Earth...Paris, France...1873..."
*beeps and bloops from the console*

He looks up at her with a thought. "We're probably going to need to get you some different clothes."

Day 3

Talk about getting the cold shoulder.

I walked down from the grass-covered mountain to this rather alpine village in the valley. It took me a good half an hour to get there, but I wasn't in any rush. The whole landscape was perfectly lovely and seasonably warm.

I get to the village and greet the first person I see who strangely turns around and starts packing up his fruit stand as fast as he can without so much as a how-do-you-do. So does the next person, who rushes from boarding up their shop into their house without giving me a cursory glance. The whole of main street is suddenly a-buzz with people packing up, boarding up, and taking off to their homes as fast as they can. Reminded me a bit of the 21st century Earth tradition...oh, what was it called....fire...drill something-or-other....

Anyway, at first I worry that it's me. But these are all humanoids, I shouldn't look too much different or alien to them. Two hands, two eyes, one head, etc. Then it hits. Like someone flicked off the lights, a blizzard hits the town. The storm breaks right over my head and dumps loads of snow right down my collar before I have a chance to react. If it wasn't for this barn *achoo!* I'd still be out in it. The wind is bitingly cold. All the cheery sunshine and grass and flowers of spring...totally gone. I do hope I haven't landed right at the beginning of a very long winter. No chance of going back to the TARDIS at this point, it's a complete whiteout outside.

Brrrrr....ok, back to making fire. If it was any other timelord they would be mortified at this backwards evolution. One of the most advanced civilizations in the universe reduced to trying to build a fire out of sticks in a blizzard.
It would be worth it though to see the look on their faces. *shivers* I love this job.

*sonic screwdriver humming*

Day 2

Landed perfectly on the blue grass covered side of a mountain on the third planet of the closest galaxy. At least, it would have been perfect if some bear-like creature hadn't felt the need to knock the strange blue box over on its side for a laugh.

Some people, I tell you.

Day 1

I do wish those stars would stop trying to look so familiar. It's bad enough not knowing where one is in the universe, its worse when you know you've been here before and can't for the lives of you remember when or where. I really should be used to it by now, heavens knows that my former self never worried about where he was going.

Now that small cluster could be...no, never mind...

Nothing for it but to keep tweaking this and turning that. At least for once the old girl is running perfectly. She always seems to run beautifully when she has no idea where she's headed.

*grinding noise*

Steady there now, I didn't mean it. You're probably heading me into some more trouble so at least have the courtesy of not conking out on me....again.
*flips two switches and pulls a lever*
There, that's a bit better.

Right then, off we go to...wherever.
fifthdoctor: (Default)
Oh, hello there. I am the Doctor. Doctor who you ask? Yes, that's quite correct. Don't look so confused, I'm perfectly in my right mind all of the time.

Ah, yes, time...it is all about time, isn't it?

I am a Time Lord and I travel about in my vehicle called the TARDIS. A police call box, you say? Well, things are hardly what they appear to be. *smile*
